Americans in Portugal Welcomes in the Summer

posted: 2011-06-10

Before taking a hiatus for the summer vacation season Americans in Portugal (www.americansinportugal.org) is staging one last fun event. It is our "Welcome to Summer Picnic" on June 22nd starting at 12:30.

They say "the best things in life are free"; so is the picnic. There is no admission charge. Not only that, the picnic will be held in the beautiful Marachel Carmona Park (right next to the Cascais Cultural Center) in the area called Park de Meredes.

In this smaller zone there is a picnic area with plenty of tables and benches (all made from stone), grassy areas for blankets, shade trees and litter barrels. It is clean, green, and peaceful. It's easy to get to. While there is plenty space for sitting you can bring your own blankets, beach chairs, cushions, etc. Wear a hat and your sunglasses.

Wait! There is more…

Buried in their most secret convictions, most people think they are pretty good cooks.

As an extra added attraction our "Welcome to Summer Picnic" will present a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of you who have harbored this certainty to demonstrate your prowess.

Something as pedestrian and ordinary as coleslaw, potato salad, or cold chicken can be raised to new and exciting levels by the addition of a few "secret" ingredients lovingly combined to create the truly special dish.

To that end, AmP will be holding a contest to judge who can bring the best picnic foods to our event. So that you can put your best foot forward the contest will consist of FIVE picnic categories:

  • Salads and appetizers
  • Sandwiches
  • Meat and Seafood
  • Vegetarian Dishes
  • Deserts

All entries must be self prepared; no buying your entry! You can enter as many categories as you wish. There will be nice prizes for the winners to say nothing of the glory.

The Club will be providing plates, cups, utensils and beverages so PLEASE let us know you are coming by e-mailing americansinportugal@gmail.com

See our website for more details.

Come and join us; all nationalities and ages are welcome. You’ll have a great time!
